355 Days and Counting

Well, as of today we have made it 355 days past my last eye surgery (we are 11 days til the actual day, but adding leap year). Had a doctors appointment today that went really well. Here is the summary of it, and some new information I found out.

Appointment summary:

Pressure: 10 in right :-) 21 in left (this could explain the mild pain in that eye)
Vision: 200 + 1 (1 on the 20/150 line)

Some cells were found in the front of my eye. This would normally be the early signs of inflammation in the back of the eye but with my reticert, he said he is not worried about it. The pocket of fluid that has been there since Late June/Early July is still there and not causing any problems. Retina is attached and other stars look very stable.

New information we found out today:

  • We are currently about 15 months out from my reticert implant, we have another 15 or so months to go. They are no longer making reticerts so even if we decided to implant another one (which she does NOT want to do) we could not get another one. They are now making an injection of steroids that stay longer in the eye and this is what we will probably do in the future.
  • They believe my eye disease has to do with something int eh genes. They do not know which gene, and what they think happened is that I have the gene and I got in contact with something (which caused what was thought of as pink eye) which then caused the disease to act up. Unfortunatly they do not know which gene yet and they do not know what originally I got in contact with
  • John brought up the remark of fixing my iris/pupil. Doctor said there unfortunately is no way to fix it. They do make a prostetic iris that would be implanted like a plastic lens to compensate for the iris/pupil not doing what it is supposed to do. but this is a surgery that she once again does NOT want to do or to have happen.

So, we are now in a waiting game... go back in 3 months again. I see the low vision specialist on Monday to see if he can do anything to get me back to where i was... with my big machine (my Merlin) I can no longer read mail/books/etc. We will see what he can do.
